About Arlanda Airport

Stockholm-Arlanda is Sweden’s largest airport and an important hub for both the Stockholm region and Scandinavia, with 167 destinations around the world, but also due to its good ground transport services to and from other parts of the Stockholm region.  In the Stockholm region, Stockholm-Arlanda is also a ground traffic hub, with good road connections, bus lines, long-distance trains, high-speed trains (Arlanda Express) and commuter trains. But there is still a lot of room for improvement when it comes to regional public transport – today driving a car is the only alternative from a number of areas.

At Stockholm-Arlanda there are approximately 250 companies and organizations with about 15,000 employees. The airport indirectly generates an additional 1,000 jobs per million passengers and around 2,000 jobs in the region for taxi drivers, day care staff et cetera. This translates to more than 50,000 jobs in addition to those at the airport itself.

The city is built on fourteen islands where Lake Mälaren flows out into the Baltic Sea and the Stockholm Archipelago – a unique maritime landscape of more than 24,000 islands. In the centre are Gamla Stan (the Old Town) and Riddarholmen, two islands that together make up Northern Europe’s largest and best-preserved medieval city core, with a history dating back to the 13th century. Gamla Stan is home to the imposing Royal Palace (Northern Europe´s largest), several beautiful churches, narrow, picturesque streets and alleys, and an abundance of shops, restaurants, bars and cafés.
